Another field in which the use of wide-field astrophotography is ideal is to make pictures of Aurora Borealis.. The tecnique is similar to the photography of punctual stars. The auroras are caused by the conjunction in the atmosphere of the effect of the magnetic field of the Earth and the solar wind, being especially beautiful in latitudes near the poles. They are called Aurora Borealis when they take place in the North Poles and Aurora Australis when they take place in the South Pole.
