"HALE BOPP-SET"

The shining lines in this photograph show the great variety of colours of the stars. The thicker line is the Hale Bopp comet and the way covered by the tail can be seen as a diffuse light. In this case the circumpolaris is directed to the West, and therefore the lines look to be straight. The angle between the lines and the horizon (62º) shows the latitude of the place (90º-62º=28º). If this picture had been taken from the Ecuador, the lines should be at right angles to the horizon, and if it had been taken from the Poles, the lines should be parallel to the horizon.
